Bill,

I'd be cautious about attributing E-Bay's problems to SUNW.

EBAY has a problem because they have a weak operations organization (COO/CTO/CIO types), and weak operational planning. They would probably be having similar (but different in the specifics) if they were on HWP, IBM, SGI or any other kind of hardware.

Fact is, the company has been more concerned about building cool web features and selling stock than they have been about sustainable operations. (Not that this is surprising. So far, internet companies have been rewarded greatly for sales of stock and cool websites, not for operations and management have understandably chased the things that make them the most money. YHOO is a fairly rare exception, that knows how to run a business.)

Soooo... just because my salary and yours are gone shouldn't explain all the run up lately. Any ideas why this is going towards a Dell/Msft valuation? Credibility for internet ecommerce perhaps?
