I guess I was trying to say the face value of the coin is $50 whether it is made of nickel or gold - the intrinsic value of the gold coin depends on it's value as gold + its rarity. The nickel coin only has an intrinsic value of a penny or two - if that. But surely when people talk of bullion they're not talking of the gold in coins - but gold bars .9999 pure? Maybe I'm wrong - but that's how I understand it. d
