Is there a place or site that mentions QWST giving up their long distance customers?

It's mentioned in several of the news articles. A copy of a Qwest June 27 press release that mentions it is copied in this message: #reply-10290791

Here is the relevant section again:
James H. Quello, former FCC Commissioner for 23
years and former interim FCC Chairman, concluded in a
letter addressed to Joseph P. Nacchio, Qwest Chairman
and CEO, that the company's plans to divest its inter-
LATA revenues and operations in the 14-state U S WEST
region is 'a clear, simple and effective way of
complying with the requirements of section 271' of
the Telecommunications Act of 1996.

Qwest said that the long distance revenues that might
be divested constitute less than one percent of the
combined company's operations. Qwest also said that it
would restart its long-distance business after the
combined company achieved Section 271 compliance.

As I understand it (and there are others here who understand these things far better than I) the last sentence means that they'd be able to get back into the long-distance business within their home territory once the FCC had certified them as open to competitive local carriers.
