With five months left in fiscal 1999, Bridges.com is on track to more than double the total number of 1998 CX subscribers. There were 2,259 CX subscribers in November of 1998. "More schools are looking for quality Internet resources like Career Explorer," says Doug Manning, Bridges.com president and chief executive officer. "Bridges will accelerate its sales initiatives in North America to take advantage of its position as market leader. We intend to increase our sales force significantly this summer to achieve this objective." Bridges to Provide Daily Education News for Canada Bridges.com has been contracted to work with CanLearn, a division of Human Resources Development Canada, and CanWin, a national not-for-profit organization, to provide a daily on-line educational information service to Canadians. The resource, tentatively called the Learning News, will be tested during the summer and made available to the nation in late September. The daily education news service will be written in the same engaging style that has made Career Explorer a success in daily career information publication via the Internet. Dave Cousins Accepts Full-Time Position David Cousins, co-founder of Bridges.com, has stepped down as director to assume a full-time position with the company. Mr. Cousins will take responsibility for human resources management. "An Internet services company like Bridges.com needs to hire, retain and develop top quality staff to maintain their edge in the market", says Mr. Manning, president and CEO. "Dave was responsible for staffing earlier in our development and we look forward to having him back on a full time basis." Mr. Cousins began full-time employment at Bridges.com on July 5. Schools Out for Summer, Yet Sales Continue Page views for the summer months will decline as students and teachers trade books for beaches. However, sales are projected to remain strong in July and the earlier part of August. "The majority of our summer sales are in the United States where many school districts don't secure funding until July," says Mike Martin, vice-president of sales at Bridges.com. "We expect to see good results through July as administrative staff in districts complete deals initiated earlier." International Advisory Committee Very Positive Develop the capability for young people to access Career Explorer from home. Maintain your excellent and very successful on-line publishing procedure. Keep CX content as diverse and engaging as possible. These are just a few of the recommendations from the first International Advisory Committee meeting, held in Kelowna, B.C., earlier this month. Representatives from national, provincial, and state agencies evaluated and endorsed many CX publishing and design procedures. More than 100 ideas and suggestions were gathered. The IAC will play an advisory role for the Career Explorer resource via telecommunications. (c) Copyright 1999 Canjex Publishing Ltd. canada-stockwatch.com
