Antenna manufacturer predicts >240 million mobile handsets for 1999.

(Thanks to Phillips Telecon)

MARKETS: Allgon, a leading manufacturer of antennas for mobile handsets and wireless infrastructure, yesterday said it
would stand by its optimistic forecast that mobile phone sales will exceed 240 million units globally for 1999. Such a projection
reflects an upbeat outlook for the Swedish manufacturer in two of its key international markets -- China and North America. In
China, Allgon foresees mobile market growth continuing at a significant pace, with wireless investment following suit. The
company recently decided to move ahead with plans to start up base station antenna production at a facility near Shanghai later
this year. In North America, Allgon said it anticipates ongoing strong antenna sales. The company based its optimism on several
factors attracting new users to wireless -- an assumption that the FCC will adopt calling party pays in the U.S. market, greater
popularity of prepaid services, and the trend toward simplified rate plans.
