Hello everybody. I received a query tonight via Private Message. I hope the person asking the question doesn't mind, but I will reproduce the primary gist of the post here (without disclosing identities) because I think the question posed may be of interest to all who follow here. The writer asked, "I have found huge discrepancies out here in VSE land when I compare the Newspaper short report with CSW ... the purpose of this memo is to ask if you have run into questionable data, and if you have confidence in the data you are collecting?" To answer the question ... I have no opinion on short position data reported by the VSE or Canada StockWatch. I do not "collect" the data! What I post here for ASE listed companies comes as a "direct cut and paste" of the original reports as published by the ASE and available on their web-site at http://www.ase.ca In posting the information, I make no attempts to validate or confirm the data. Nor do I "massage" the data in any way ... it is directly cut and paste from a MicroSoft Word document. I realize that many people have read about or believe that the number of shorts reported can, on occasion, be grossly under-reported due to "undisclosed shorting" -- I have no personal opinion or comment on this subject. The first function served by this forum and my postings here is to allow easy accessibility to everyone -- not everybody has access to MicroSoft Word or a "reader" that will read MS Word documents via their browser over the internet. The second, and most important , function provided here is to provide an historical archive of the bulletins. The ASE posted data remains available on their web-site for only a short period of time (approximately 30 days). After that the current bulletin falls off the list as newer bulletins replace older ones. By posting the bulletins here, there is a historical archive of easily accessible short reports available should anyone wish to go back in time for personal research purposes. I hope the above answers the original question and states my position clearly. I make no comment or opinion on the contents of the data posted here, nor do I make any promises as regards to their accuracy. Cheers!
