Check out these sites for researching option symbols.

The first is the CBOE announcements for contract adjustments for splits, mergers, spinoffs, etc:

cboe.com

This site is from the Options Clearing Corp and it shows all option series for a given underlying:

onn.theocc.com

You're right, you should have gotten twice the number of contracts at half the strike price.

There isn't any excuse not making the right contract adjustments. As far as correcting the problem, I'd check these sites to make sure you know what your contract adjustments should have been and I'd write a letter informing them of the correct adjustments. If they don't fix the problem, I'd take my business elsewhere and call an attorney.
