Nike Adds Compaq to Its Global Information Technology Team

Customer Choice Model and Global Product
Consistency Instrumental in Securing Multi-Million
Dollar Agreement

BEAVERTON, Ore. and HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 14, 1999-- In its continuing effort to
redirect resources toward its core athletic businesses, Nike (NYSE:NKE - news) today announced the
selection of Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ - news) as its global information technology (IT)
solutions provider. Compaq was selected because of its superior product offerings, future direction of the
ultraportable laptop PC, global consistency of delivered product and its Customer Choice model that
provides flexibility in product customization. Financial terms of the multi-year contract were not
announced; however, Nike is expected to realize significant annualized cost savings as a result of the
single vendor agreement.

''Standardizing on Compaq products globally allows Nike to focus on our core athletic businesses,'' said
Ken Harris, Nike's chief information officer. ''We standardized on Compaq desktops several years ago
and we were very pleased with our experience. It just made sense for us to expand our relationship with
Compaq, adding them to our newly configured information technology delivery team. With their solid
global presence, we know that the product quality will be the same -- whether it is delivered here in
Beaverton (Oregon) or in Bangkok.''

''Nike is another example of a customer looking beyond the mere methodology of purchasing hardware
to the bottom-line deliverables -- a global IT solution with Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) factored in,''
said Jim Milton, Vice President, U.S. Enterprise Sales for Compaq. ''Our Customer Choice program
lets our customers determine how they want to order, customize and have products delivered. Our goal
is to help Nike drive efficiencies from IT, improving their overall purchase and ownership experience.''

Nike's global standardization begins with the shipment of Deskpro desktop and Armada portable
systems to Nike Mexico. Over the next six months, approximately 4,700 Deskpro EN, Armada 7400
and Workstation SP 700 units are expected to ship to Nike's global affiliates in over 35 countries.

The future direction of the portable PC line was also a key factor in determining the Nike-Compaq
agreement. The ultraportable laptop PC line is scheduled to be announced later this quarter.

With this new partnership, Compaq now joins Lockheed Martin Integrated Business Solutions as a
strategic provider of corporate IT services to Nike. Earlier this year, Lockheed Martin entered into an
outsourcing agreement with Nike designed to upgrade a broad range of the company's internal
information technology services.
