Dear Devils Advocate: IMHO that isnt such a daring prediction. High Techs often perform poorly in August but bounce back after Sept. JDN

NILES DOUBTS INTEL'S OWN STATEMENTS

In response to Mark Haynes' question: "What about the positive statements they have made about business going forward?"

Niles said, "Intel didn't meet their own guidance in Q199 and didn't meet their own guidance for Q299, so why should we believe their guidance for Q3 and the balance of the year."

This statement was not responded to by the other participants, Cramer, Kernan & Haynes, but I would have asked him for details as to what he was talking about. I am not aware that Intel didn't meet their guidance. It seems to me that actual results fell within the range that Intel said they would in both of the last two quarters.

Niles worries about 3Q99 have to do with his thinking that there is always a summer doldrums period in "the electronics business." He said something like that.

Haynes: What about the fact that the stock is trading + 1 1/2 right now?

Niles: "The day is not over yet."

Niles only saving grace for me was his statement, "In the long run, the only thing that matters is earnings. We'll see if they can do what they say they will."

I believe they will - and probably exceed expectations thereby.
