RPG to join Internet services bandwagon

RPG Group:http://www.rpgnet.com/index2.html

The Rs 64 bn Rama Prasad Goenka (RPG) group has drawn up plans to migrate from e-mail business to Internet services.

The move is part of the Group's strategy to make Sprint RPG one of the major Internet Service Providers (ISP). It is also scouting for acquisitions and alliances in the paging services sector. This apart, cellular services business of the Group will be nurtured as part of its growth plan to rank among the top three in the country. The Group's software company, international Computers India, is being groomed to become one of the country's top three companies in the next couple of years.

While Sprint RPG has already achieved full break even in June 1998 and the revenue per mailbox touched Rs 1,099 in the 3QFY99, the overall prospects are not seen to be bright. This prompted the company to move to Internet services. On the paging front, December 1998 saw the business making a small profit and full cost break-even is expected by December 1999. RPG paging has market share between 35-40%. The business, according to RPG's estimations, is expected to achieve a projected turnover of Rs 500 m by March 2002.
