You know, I was reading your post trying to understand your point of view when I came across your last sentence in which you elect to insult me. You just can't find it in you to debate the merits of an issue without denigrating someone. First JLA's family, now it's my "ego related problem".

As to your point, you are wrong. (What a surprise.) The women's gymnastics TEAM won the Olympic Gold medal when one of the team members nailed a perfect jump on a sprained ankle. Nothing was more dramatic than that or helpful for women's sports. This soccer victory doesn't come close. Ask Dominique Moceanu.

There is a reason womens' skating is more popular than hockey.

I only hope that - all other arguments aside - you're not pretending that the US womens' soccer team could take the field and beat the mens' team... it's not going to happen.

Same for basketball.. and there will never be a woman doing a 4.3 40-yard and benching 400 lbs (pro football running back).

You can be a fan of womens' soccer all you want.. just don't pretend that in such an event that the women have as much grace/speed as the men, because they don't.

Men and women are two different animals, and in many ways men are athletically superior... this is obvious to most people... is it obvious to you?

If you don't hold these strange viewpoints please accept my apologies in advance for assuming you might.

FWIW
Andy

<<For the last 20 years it seems like every other startup company I am involved with plays that "do you believe in miracles" film about the US hockey team in 1980.>>

Let's de-construct. First point: You say that you are 34 years old, yet you refer to working with start-up companies for 20 years. What's up with that?

Next point: the miracle of the US hockey triumph in 1980 is that a team of real amateurs, mostly college players, beat the world's best professional hockey team. They were 100-1 underdogs. And it was accomplished in the height of the Cold War.

OTOH, the US women's soccer team was one of the four favorites to win the World Cup. They were slight underdogs to China in the final. They'll get a little more press and a little endorsement money, but it will fizzle quickly IMO. No "Do you belive in miracles" music at startups for this team, that's for sure!
