F5's BIG/ip, despite its robustness, doesn't fill some critical needs of ECommerce. However, no appliances or software out there does what I am explaining next yet.

Imagine, you are a shopper via the Internet engaged in a shopping session, and your Internet shop uses BIG/ip as its load-balancing solution. The server that you are hitting, lets call it Server A, crashed, and your session is lost completely. BIG/ip relocate you to Server B, but you will have to start the a new shopping session again.

As we all know, sessions variables are stored in the web server while the session state is maintained by BIG/ip. For BIG/ip is the only central point of this load-balanced environment, a downed web server loses all of its session variables and the only thing that BIG/ip can do is to throw the user to a new server with a brand new session...how annoying is this online transaction?
