Mark,

I'd be interested in reading your thoughts on the following hypothesis. As was reported on this thread a couple weeks ago Message 10340813 CMGI completed a private placement with Shoreline Pacific for $375M. This placement was also described in Red Herring redherring.com

The initial tranche ($125M) is being repriced beginning today, if I am counting correctly. Based on the average closing bid price for the next 10 trading days beginning today, the conversion price for Tranche 1 will be 90.75% of the average closing bid price. Subsequent tranches will be repriced similarly in August and September.

Details are available from James Thompson's post Message 10418121 or from the 8-K filed 7/7/99.

It seems to me that Shoreline Pacific has an incentive to exert downward pressure on the stock price. The lower conversion price (if they are successful) translates into more shares of common stock. These shares could either be held for future appreciation, or sold (or used as collateral for selling short) during the next repricing period.

In your opinion, how much influence has Shoreline Pacific had over the weakness we have seen this week, and do you expect them to have much influence in the next repricing periods in mid-August and mid-September?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts,
Greg

mark, i have a finite amount of capital to invest at this point. i have holdings in softbank and cmgi. assume i don't want to split my capital: should i put it all in softbank or all in cmgi? what do you think?

if the days of explosive internet growth in the us are gone, softbank may be better. but cmgi is really only just now going "mainstream" so there may be advantages there. so i'm soliciting your opinion, which i may or may not follow, but i'm interested in your ever thoughtful analyses.

thanks

Just added to my CMGI holdings (my largest position) at 111 shortly before today's close.

I see pressure building for a run up in the next few weeks, save any negative economic or international news of significance.
