Bill,

The initial outage was blamed on a software glitch. Sun admitted the glitch, but also pointed out at the time that a patch had already been delivered to all customers and SHOULD have been installed. Everything I've read leads me to believe that Sun did pretty much the right thing and EBAY failed to operated effectively.

Again, I wouldn't put too much into it. We all have to send out patches and updates from time to time. HWP probably does it as often as Sun, we just haven't been caught in such a visible situation. (Remember IBM and their systems for the Atlanta Olympics?)

That said, it certainly doesn't help Sun's image...
