Why so few firms cover GNET? I think there are 3 ways for a company to get coverage from brokerage firms: 1) the firm has some underwriting business with the company; 2) the firm sees potential banking business with the company; 3) the company is too big to be ignored, the firm has to advise its clients on the stock. Let's go over one by one: For 1), GNET was brought public in 97 by a very small company. Too bad for GNET. The perfect example is goto.com: GOTO is having 3 coverage today by its three underwriters all with "Buy" rating. Do you think they really "think" it is a buy? I don't think so. You got to lower one notch to get real rating from underwriters, it is actually a hold. ( I believe Strong buy means buy, buy means hold while hold means sell from underwriters ). For 2), GNET just got $300M from Paul Allen's Vulcan Ventures. No secondary is needed to raise cash. If there is an acquisition, it would be relatively small, because of GNET's way of doing business. So not many potential business here to motivate analyst. It left GNET only 3). Grow itself to be a dominant player. Also the analysts are a little shy of stating that this one looks strong after such a run. Nobody wants to sit on the sidelines and finally get in the game to not only miss the largest gain but run the risk of making a call on a stock that may be topping in the short term. I think they will miss the call once again........gnet looks strong and will continue to be an amazing climber for at least the next 6 months. If gnet meets its goals as stated....or continues to beat expectations this one will continue to fly. I don't think that is the case. Analysts never issue a coverage for 3 months, they usually say 12 or 18-month price target.bottom line.. not many in main stream america have heard of this stock or this company.. While others are spending big $$$$ for brand awareness GNET has a different strategy that, although not sexy from a marketing standpoint seems solid from an earnings and long term standpoint. Once all of the sites that compose GNET are updated and consolidated, I bet there will be a more focused attempt at marketing to build brand recognition, and there will then be more coverage. Yes, that is my 3). Very long GNET #79
