It sure sounds like a good idea but it won't be "just another component". The whole n-tier model has to be rewritten and move the session-keeping component away from the web server. Whoa, this whole internet thing is getting more bloated day by day! It used to be a Web server + a firewall and you are set. Now you need this caching-proxy and this load-balancing controller and a session-management controller and an application server and a database. No wonder these ecommerce outfits don't make any money.
