HILLSBORO, Ore. (Dow Jones)--Intel Corp. (INTC) plans to deliver broadband connectivity devices providing faster Internet access for residential and small-business users.

In a press release Thursday, Intel said as part of its strategy, its Broadband Access unit entered a technology agreement with Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) to develop and manufacture a line of personal computer-based asymmetrical digital subscriber line modems compatible with Cisco's central office digital subscriber line equipment.

The first Intel ADSL broadband products, which will be available through local telecommunications providers, are expected to begin shipping later this year.

DSL is a method of providing high-speed Internet access over normal copper telephone lines.

Intel had 1998 revenue of $26.27 billion.
