>>Just for fun I computed the compounded annual growth rates for INTC<<

ben, don't ruin a good manipulation of numbers! ;-)

it does support my point that the whole large cap, well known company base is being supported by something other than fundamentals. call it zitgeist-t-t-t-t-t!

usually multiples shrink when growth rates slow. in this dimension they expand almost no matter what.

Ben,

Why did you drop the next number in the progression which should be around 31%??

Actually, like I said I was off by a year but your numbers are correct.

Last 6 years, 28% 1994-1999
Last 5 years, 22% 1995-1999
Last 4 years, 16% 1996-1999
Last 3 years, 8% 1997-1999
Last 2 years, 31% 1998-1999

Growth rate has slowed in recent past but is turning back up sharply this year.

Much of this growth and slowdown in growth was despite and due to a major slowdown in Asia and what the talking heads have called one of the worst semi downturns ever.

For many many reasons that most people here disagree with or don't believe (so I'm not going to bother listing them), I think Intel's future is brighter than ever and long term I consider this one of the surest bets in the market.

FF

Ben, If those numbers were upside down, the bulls would definitely call it a positive trend. Odd they can't tell a negative trend when it bites them on the butt. <g>

Ben:

I do much the same thing. I like to look at year-over-year growth of revenues,.....especially with respect to baseline products. It's also fun to subtract "purchased revenues" (i.e. acquisitions), to get a feel for internal growth. Intel's growth rate is a joke, given the multiple.

Best, Earlie
