JF . . . Meg's not alone . . . AMEX, Delta Airlines, not to mention Novell and I think Ingram plus one of the big call-center service bureaus (can't remember the name) all have put these kinds of things in Utah.

I think it has more to do with average wage (slightly lower than US average) and work-force stability than anything else. I know from experience that it's hard to get people to relocate out of there, so you apparently have a more stable pool to draw on. Not sure what the religious affiliation thing has to do with it.

All I can say is that they must not be hiring customer support personnel as quickly as they would like or as quickly as they should.

I do imagine the pay rate in Salt Lake City is a lot less than it is in Silicon Valley, so from that perspective, it is a wise move.
