"Byte.com Awards FinalCut Pro Top Rating"

Hot New Video Editing Software For Macs - Part I Apple's Final Cut Pro: Not A Me-Too Product By Glen Speckert, July 5th, 1999

>Classic programs evolve from year to year, but Apple's Final Cut Pro is starting life at the head of its class. It is not a "me-too" product, but rather a next-generation video production environment.

Final Cut Pro has a well thought-out set of capabilities that span the whole range of features required of a professional digital video production suite. When installed on a Power Macintosh G3 equipped with FireWire and attached to a DV camera, it offers an end-to-end video creation solution.<

>QuickTime 4 is integral to Final Cut Pro.<

>Final Cut Pro will also print to tape and export your product. It can create up to 4,000-by-4000 pixel products, compressed or uncompressed, 60 field products, and can write them to your DV or other output device.<

byte.com

Analyzing QuickTime4 vs. RealPlayer (vs. MediaPlayer) without accounting for FinalCut Pro misses the point.

While the RNWK business model relies on licensing fees, AAPL positions QT as a one element of a systems matrix by which to propagate its existence.

FinalCut exports to a variety of media protocols -- including RealPlayer.

AAPL may or may not be successful in displacing RNWK's lead in streaming media, but their business model does not depend on it.

Voltaire,

Why would you think they will see 2 cents, when the expectation is for a loss of 2 cents?

I would think even a break even quarter or a 1 cent profit would give the same effect as a 2 cent gain, and then Glaser could conserve that extra penny (assuming he has it) for next quarter, when he may need it.

Also, why would they split again so soon, especially when they are still well off the 52 week high?

Not giving you a hard time, just trying to understand your rationale.

G

Voltaire,

If your predictions happen, then indeed, you are an oracle.

Most likely, Real's first breakeven quarter will be announced.

No reason for a split.

Hope I'm wrong and you're not. Rory

Hi,

Glad we meet here again....

I'm holding August calls and need to get out of them asap.

But why do you see a split when we just had one...???? And does anyone have a price target on this stock before earnings....??? Market does not seem to be moving much.....
