What do you think Frank/Gang? Does this little "shiney pebble" have the potential with this patent to become lord of it's forest?Audiohighway gets patent on digital audio device CUPERTINO, Calif., July 14 (Reuters) - Staking a claim on the Internet's fast-growing digital music frontier, audiohighway.com (Nasdaq:AHWY - news) said on Wednesday it was issued a U.S. patent on portable devices that record and play back digital audio recordings from the Internet. The patent application was submitted in 1995 and the patent awarded in late June of this year, but the company disclosed the award for the first time Wednesday, a spokesman said. The company was granted U.S. Patent No. 5,914,941. Shares of Audiohighway.com rose $1.50 by mid-afternoon on the Nasdaq stock market, climbing to $21. In 1994, Audiohighway.com said it began developing one of the first portable digital audio players that allows users to select and download any type of digital audio content that could be stored for playback. The company developed its own ''Listen Up'' digital audio recording and playing device in 1997. Diamond Multimedia Systems Inc. More than 30 companies are shipping or intend to ship worldwide portable digital audio players this year, the company said. ''This new patent is a tremendous addition to our growing intellectual property portfolio,'' said Nathan Schulhof, president and chief executive of Audiohighway.com, in a statement. ''It is especially important in light of the rapid growth in Internet usage.'' The company went public in December 1998. Curious as to the Panel's thoughts? I have owned this stock for 4 months.
