The claims for AHWY device were very forward thinking, they covered about all types of digtal storage media, in particular hard drives and flash. They covered about every type of digtal download system you can think of in particular the internet, satellite, and cable.
They covered the download of ASCII or info and the conversion into speech..perhaps talking books might have to pay a license.
They didn't make any claims about codecs..so EPAC is okay.
They don't have a patent on our MicroOS..so EDIG is okay.
They don't have a patent on TI's DSP..so TI is okay.
They don't have a patent on any protection scheme.
They did claim "provision of an automatic data format recognition system...for a plurality of codecs"...depends on the way they do it as to the impact.
They made an interesting statement in their filing....
"device has intentionally limited audio bandwidth, i.e. it does not provide stereo full fidelity"..this was not in the final claims, but I wonder if it will have an impact?
Best, Savant
