NASC.....Network Access Solutions, which offers digital subscriber line technology
to Bell Atlantic customers and other people in the Northeast U.S., opened
at 11 7/8, below the lower-than-expected $12 offering price.

By the close of trading, however, the stock managed to climb back to 12
1/16. Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette was the lead manager for the 7.6
million share offering.

Network Access said in its prospectus that it has an advantage over
competitors, such as newly public Covad Communications (COVD:
news, msgs) and Rhythms NetConnections (RTHM: news, msgs),
because of its "closer day-to-day working relationship with Bell Atlantic."
However, the company warned that the Baby Bells also "will in the future
increasingly represent strong competition in all of our target markets."
