Frank-- I don't think they refer to iDSL, ie. ISDN ADSL. That takes
a port on a 5ESS and that is what the ILECS can't handle (don't want
to invest the capital in circuit switches any more). Since PacBell is
mentioned, I know that PacBell allows Rythm and others into their CO's. I suspect Earthlink will do same, maybe with Redback DSLAM
gear. That is just a guess---

BTW--IDSL is 128 kbps-- 2B+D where "B" is 56 kbps

As an interesting aside-- I just got BellSouths DSL variant installed
in my home in FL. Tis ADSL, bridged RFC 1483 service, using a Siemens
splitter and an Alcatel 1000-AB ADSL modem. The installer for BellSouth in Fla is contracted to Cybernation, a small but competent
group in Fort Lauderdale. They don't touch the CO stuff as that is left for BellSouth.
