All, Reuters, TIBCO name Sun preferred computer vendor PALO ALTO, Calif., July 15 (Reuters) - Reuters Group Plc(quote from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: RTR.L) and TIBCO Software Inc. (Nasdaq:TIBX - news) on Thursday said they named Sun Microsystems Inc. a preferred computer hardware vendor, significantly expanding their business relationship. TIBCO, whose major shareholder is Reuters and which had a successful Wall Street debut on Wednesday, named Sun a preferred platform for its Tibco.net Web hosting service. Under the expanded agreement, Reuters named Sun as a preferred vendor for its hardware, infrastructure and data delivery systems, which distribute information to nearly 500,000 people every day. As previously announced, Sun agreed to take a minority stake of 500,000 shares in TIBCO for $15 per share. Sun on Thursday said it agreed to license an array of TIBCO products for possible inclusion in the Sun and Sun-Netscape Alliance product lines. Palo Alto, Calif.-based TIBCO provides the software tools that speed delivery of vast amounts of information over the Internet. TIBCO shares surged 116 percent or $17.375 to $32.375 on the Nasdaq Stock Market in its first day of trading on Wednesday. Separately, TIBCO said it expanded a deal with Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO - news) , a leading global Internet media company, for Yahoo to distribute stock quotes throughout its network of Web properties using TIBCO software. As previously announced, Yahoo agreed to purchase $4 million of TIBCO's newly-issued common stock. Reuters, a global news and information company, is based in London.
