Arthur, A SCSI (via PCMCIA) could provide you with an adequate data feed for a CD-RW or CD-R. There could also be some USB devices out there now.

I utilize an Adaptec 2020 SCSI on my Pentium tower to feed a Plextor 4X CD-R, using mainly Fuji media. Discs form this set-up have played on all the audio CD players I and others have tried.

Excuse me for butting in, I just get all excited when it comes to computers/audio/multimedia.

I'm not aware of CD R/W for notebooks. It is a separate type of CDROM player. See George Wave's post as I think you would need to add on via some sort of interface.
