>>>A bank running its own BP warehouse holds all the cards.

True. But can you name 3 of the top 25 banks that have their own in-house Bill pay?

...Nope, you can't, because there are only 2, Mellon and Citi. BoA doesn't count because it isn't national (neither is Citi's for all purposes, TP won't even use it).

>>>>the smart ones will end up there eventually.

Your missing one major point, which has made CheckFree what it is today. Economies of Scale, which will become more important than ever with increased adoption rates.

No more than somebody writing a paper check when the bill shows up in the mailbox. Of xourse the direct guy may have you authorizes a direct debit via ACH.

Doesn't this defeat the whole purpose of EBPP(easier, cheaper, faster, no hassle)

>>>those presented directly are paid by ???, and those presented by others are paid by ??? sounds like it will turn out to be a nightmare!

Greg, I believe you side stepped this question. Suppose a payment is screwed? Who does the consumer call? Even if the bank has it's own customer service they would need access to both TransPoint and CheckFree complete systems. Which they may not have, so then they have to call TP or CF, and they in turn do the research, etc., etc., and then decide who is fault for the late payment? who will refund the customer? Not to mention TP has no payment tracking.

...It's a problem that software can not solve, it is a service.

Not impossible, but it could very well make more sense to present less e-bills and go with one consolidator (especially if one consolidator has 75% market share and the other has 20%) Is that 20% really worth it????
