You're right. DLRN (distance learning) communications software used for v-c tends to run free of charge, one way or another. There must be a value-add component here of the Microsoftian genre of add ons and extensions to the base product, somewhere, in order to ensure cash flow for the publisher. Possibly student-centric middleware that includes subject matter-specific content/screen features, or something along those lines.

Hello Kenneth,

> What do you find for a market on this one?

Good question ...

What I've been seeing is the slow but steady adoption in corporations first. The "video conference room" of the past, will start to become the video conference desktop ... instead of $100k+ systems, people will be able to invest in much more cost effective desktop systems.

Then there is the public service provider. If you see the explosion of "voice conferencing services" that have shown up in the business world, which provide a conference call on the spur of the moment, I believe that the same types of services are going to appear in the public space for H.323 ... business conferences, family conferences ... this is already happening. Someone will have to provide the conferencing platform for this to happen ...

The last area is a slight variation of the conferencing server ... and that is the intelligent relay with recording. What if I have my own conference room ... and its always mine ... when people call into it they either find me answering, or a recording. This is the next step in video/voice mail ... and just like people have voice mail boxes through the telcos, I believe we will have video/voice mail ... and someone is going to provide that platform.

These are some of the areas ... I know that they seem to be out a little ... but I think we are going to jump past voice fairly rapidly with the low cost and integrated cameras ...
