Intel said it created a new business unit and shuffled some divisions around to try
to hone its focus on networking and Internet opportunities.

Intel formed the Communications Products Group to focus on networking and
communications systems, including the business of Dialogic, which Intel acquired
Tuesday. Vice president John Miner will head the new group and will report to chief
executive Craig Barrett.

Intel has spent the past two years shifting from its traditional reliance on microprocessors
to encompass more products that help personal computers talk to each other or send data
around the world quickly.

Intel has made several acquisitions and unveiled new ventures--such as server farms to
help companies set up Web sites--to expand its business as PC sales growth slows and
prices plummet.

Intel said the Network Communications Group will continue to be headed by Mark
Christensen, but it will now focus on component-level networking products like chips and
the Level One Communications business.
