CommTouch Increases Global Partner Sites by 50% During Three Months; Fastest-growing Provider of Web Based Email Dominates International Market

Business Wire - July 16, 1999 15:30
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 16, 1999--Extending its dominant position in the global email market, CommTouch Software (Nasdaq:CTCH), a leading provider of web-based email and messaging solutions, today announced it has signed more than 40 new partners including 17 international portals and major community sites.

CommTouch is the fastest-growing provider of web-based email. In addition to its core large domestic service base, it has enabled more international websites than any other email service on the market today.

According to International Data Corporation (IDC) there are more World Wide Web users outside than inside the United States today. "Web/Internet email usage will skyrocket over the next few years, with the number of mailboxes hosted by websites and ISPs leaping from 100 million last year to 210 million in 2001," according to industry analyst Mark Levitt (www.idc.com)."

"Internet messaging providers such as CommTouch that target international markets will be well positioned to meet the demand for hosted mailboxes in markets which will represent 40% of hosted mailboxes worldwide in two years."

CommTouch CEO Gideon Mantel was pleased to say, "We have experienced tremendous growth in global email demand during the last three months. The combination of CommTouch services, strong continued growth in the domestic market and overwhelming demand internationally has resulted in extremely high demand for all our solutions." Mantel added, "And because email is the conduit for eCommerce, we are well situated to take advantage of the eCommerce opportunities generated from these new business partners."

Included among its 17 new international partners sites are online communities and portals Bangkok.com, Enet China.com, Espanol.com and Europe Online.com, plus Grolier (Elle magazine) and large Spanish publisher, Recoletos. A few of the 23 new CommTouch partners in the U.S. are financial sites First USA (NYSE: ONE) and Mortgage.com, Internet destinations sites such as the Weather Channel and Knight-Ridder (NYSE: KRI).

ctch - if you consider go2net's user base across si/hypermart/metacrawler then it seems
fairly clear that that's a large number of people (see mediametrix.com for go2net's
ranking)

basically i think it gives commtouch reach into consumer net users (go2net), with
businesses using the net (hypermart) and with investors using the net (silicon investor)
