Navigating a thread

How do I go back to early posts in a thread? The post number box does not work. I am using Netscape 4.04. I put a post number in the box and hit enter and nothing happens.

I click on the thread header and I only see forty posts. Clicking previous forty to go through 5000 posts is a PIA and VERY time consuming.

Any help would be appreciated
