I respectfully resubmit AXC - lots of news since we last talked about this stock - broke out today up 3/4 to 5.75 on over a million shares. (Thanks to 2051orbust - Raging Bull Message Board Contributor Thursday, 15 Jul 1999 at 2:35 AM EDT) Methinks the breakout is beginning... I am a deeply invested shareholder of Ampex Corporation and this is why I believe it is going to make major price move upward in the next year: Ampex' caterpillar is nearly broken free of its chrysalis and the emergent butterfly is ready to flap its wings and flutter forth into the Internet's web. This butterfly will not be caught in the web, however, rather it will redefine the web as a purveyor of content on demand, 24/7/365 that will actually entertain, inform, involve, and most importantly sell the wares of sponsors and advertisers. This company that invented the first practical videotape recorder and forever changed the broadcasting business by so doing is reinventing itself now as it sheds the sometimes deserved image of a stodgy old company that cannot market itself to become quite possibly the most credible new player in the fast as light Internet era. When you watch picture-in-picture on your TV remember that Ampex invented that technology. When you experience digital video effects on your TV remember that Ampex' ADO was the first with that. The ADO, like most Ampex products, took the industry by storm. When you think of the Internet buzzword "compression" remember that Ampex has been there from the beginning, since before there was an Internet, employing its signal processing know how to improve the storage, transmission, and display of information. And now with the formal transition of Ampex to a holding company, Ampex offers a full range of services to anyone or to any company that wants to make its presence felt on the web. Do you have massive storage needs? Ampex can provide the DST tape library that can store over 12 Terabytes of information any bit of which can be accessed within an average seek time of only 16 seconds. And how does 80mb/second transfer sound to you? Ask The US government, Lockheed, Turner Broadcasting, or the major oil companies how they like the most rugged, most dependable, most accurate nearline storage devices on the market. Then ask Storage Technologies or EMC if they have anything like it. They don't. Need a RAID system along with that DST? Ampex' wholly owned subsidiary, Micronet, can fix you right up with fiber channel connection to move your data in a hurry. Need to webcast your shareholders or sales meeting? Or how about publicize a spur of the moment event? Ampex' TV on the Web (TVOW) subsidiary can provide studio and mobile services for everything you need including pre and post production, encoding, webhosting services, duplication and any other service you require to make your event something memorable and effective. Want to reach out to European opportunities? Consider producing your program at our TVOW facilities on the island of Malta in the Mediterranean. Malta has fiber-to-the-curb and will serve as a demonstration hotbed for Ampex' new technologies as we partner with major European providers including TV1 to impact the European market. Want to develop an interactive gameshow to present on the web? Talk to our folks at Ampex' Alternative Entertainment Network TV (AENTV) subsidiary. Let us help you produce your blockbuster. Sorry, "Hollyweb Squares" is already taken; we're debuting it soon. iNEXTV.com is the umbrella company for our Internet activities. Watch for its debut in November along with its improved streaming video quality courtesy of Ampex technology. Unlike the typical Internet startup, Ampex is a real company with real products and know how available now in the marketplace. We have held over 7,000 patents on our technologies, with about 1,000 of those patents still active and their technology in use by world wide manufacturers. Recently Ampex announced a $16.7 million licensing agreement with a major consumer electronics manufacturer running through the end of 2001. This is a non-exclusive arrangement, meaning other manufacturers can obtain a license for Ampex technology, too, and feed Ampex' bottom line. Does a company like Broadcast.com have anything nearly like this going for it? It basically has vaporware. And no profits. And consider that Yahoo recently paid $5.7 billion to buy them. What do you think Ampex is worth... Ampex can develop, process, store, distribute, and display information all by itself and do it more reliably and ultimately more cheaply than any other company. This legendary company in the broadcasting business has recently entered into an agreement with a legendary figure in broadcasting, Hugh Downs, to help promote Ampex' vision. Mr. Downs, a veteran of 50 years in broadcasting has taken an equity position in Ampex and will be working to provide content for iNEXTV.com powered by Ampex. Mr. Downs with all his industry savvy and connections would not be hitching his wagon to Ampex' star if he did not believe strongly in the future of our company. He is a well-respected member of the broadcast community who is admired by millions of people and he would not risk his own star being tarnished in a losing venture. Think about it. He brings instantly recognizable credibility to iNEXTV and Ampex. The above are just some of the reasons I'm very long Ampex. And for you market technicians, check Ampex' charts.
