Ok Pat, now wait a minute. According to this guy at penstarsys penstarsys.com , "Supposedly
on August 2nd, 3dfx will be announcing "next-gen technology", whatever that means. Many of the worlds biggest game and hardware personalities will be there for this unveiling." Does that sound like a core logic chipset announcement? Not to me. Are you being coy? ;-)

"New technology on August 2nd...

It's my guess that 3dfx will announce an integrated core logic chipset for the K7,
and possibly the P-III. Everybody else is doing it and 3dfx is the only company we
haven't heard anything from."

I seriously doubt that 3DFX has the engineering expertise to do a core logic chipset by themselves. They also do not have access to the patents they would need to release such a chipset supporting AGP4x and the Slot 1, look into the Via mess for more details. I know there was some kind of joint technology development supposed to be going on in Texas. Maybe if AMD was working with them they might be come up with something for Athlon but I still doubt it.
I liked the article and I would love for TDFX to already have the next gen chip done and to be just holding it up from releasing it because the Voodoo3 is doing so well. I tend to doubt this though given the number of slips on the 3500.
In other news S3 earnings just came out and if you subtract their gains from selling interests in fabs they would have lost 9.5 million on 57 million dollars in revenue
