Mani: <<I like to see someone who is interested in increasing shareholder value ahead of any personal agenda.>> In regard to Atiq, I believe Jerry said three things in yesterday's CC. 1. "I know we will continue a positive relationship (with Atiq), moving forward." Remember that in Atiq's release, he said that he look forward to conversation with Jerry concerning his possible role in the future with. What Jerry said here from AMD's point of view is that AMD wanted to have a relationship with Atiq - Jerry openly accepted Atiq's offer for certain part-time deal with Atiq. It's smart move. In fact, I wont be surprised by a consulting agreement with Atiq in the next few days. 2. "It's very important to remember that right now our industry is in very strong upturn. I want to do all I can to keep all team members in place. so I step in until I can apraise all potential players." To my ear, what Jerry trying to say here is that his team members might be hired away by other semi companies. He wants to make sure that before their departures (if they do eventually) AMD would have a first choice among these guys internally. Again, I think Jerry's approach is proper here. 3. "will keep options open" in terms of looking both internally and outside. The problem to look internally is that it may lead to the intensified internal waring fractions, unless you already have someone higher up in management who can quell all disregards from his peers. I do not know whether AMD has such person internally at the moment. If AMD looks outside, got to find a blockbuster type like EP to make sure the new guy can command respect across board within AMD. In that sense, I would think EP type might work. But, for these type of guys, AMD might be too small to offer any enticing excitements to get them on board.
