some major Q holders have seen their portfolios too overloaded with one stock and these fund managers -- or asset managers -- have had to sell lately --

I must laugh when I hear the conventional "wisdom" regarding "balanced portfolios". If I had followed the common advice, I never would have been able to parlay a small initial investment into a huge fortune of MSFT. In other words, it is not wise to sell your winners. Hold on tight to those QCOM shares!

As far as the recent extreme bullishness indicating downside risk - If this was the typical net stock without strong fundamentals, I would agree strongly. As it stands, the extreme bullishness just reflects the incredible run we have had so far this year and since the fundamentals are still intact, I think the Q has less downside risk (over a term of at least a quarter) than any growth company I have looked at recently.

In short, those who sell a portion of their QCOM thinking they are being "responsible" are doing nothing but lowering their returns. I learned the hard way in 1990 after a particularly strong run of MSFT. I thought I would "take a little profit" and reduce my exposure to this high-flier so I sold a few shares. For every 10 shares I sold then, I am now minus 1280 MSFT shares x $94= $120,000.00 So that little bit of "profit taking" is more like "profit losing." Of course everybodies situation is different and you have to take profits at some time or there is no point in investing in the first place. Just be aware of the future cost.
