As a matter of act, I do still hold a little VOCL that I bought about three years ago after reading about a pair of nerds who "invented" the IP telephony while serving their conscription in the Israeli Defense Force. By dumb luck, I did sell off much of it not long after DT picked up 21 per cent of VOCL a couple of summers ago and said it would buy some $30M in equipment. DT already has spent more than half, which amounts to much of VOCL's inconme.

The company has gone through several game plans, starting with shrink wrap, then a nice-sounding operation-- whose name I forget--designed to to bring all those little bargain-priced telcoms operators into their orbit, to corporate gateways and I don't know what else.

You would understand better than me, but it apparently doesn't take any genius to get into this business. I keep thinking they are on top of innovation but I don't see any significant revenue jumps. Lots of strategic alliances (nice for press releases but no revenues), a nice-sounding recent release about China. But I'm an old China hand and remember well the pipe dreams about cracking the China mkt, few of which were ever realized. (Add one inch to every Chinese shirtail and keep the English textile looms going foreever).

So I must admit that VOCL is pretty far down my radar screen at the moment. This comes from a person who is never surprised at the surprises the market can spring. VOC Ldoes have a hell of alot more engineers working for them than billion-dollar Clarent.

Buyout? If it were in the cards,it should have happened by now.
