Don:

I'm not long AMD and never have been, primarily because they have experienced plenty of problems in the past in delivering on their promises. That said, micro production is one heck of a tough game, and Intel is very definitely a 900 lb gorilla. I don't envy AMD their task of knocking Intel off the pedestal.

What I am impressed with is the fact that they did bring the K6 to market in a very effective way (of course, the box builders bent over backwards to assist) and the K7 has been moved along rather remarkably. I really respect their design team immensely. Time will tell if they can survive the brutal price cutting initiated by Intel.

Intel has deep pockets, but the K7 gives AMD a solid performance boost against Intel's best products. It is going to be interesting. One thing for sure is that prices have no where to go but down until either a truce is called or one of the competitors is vanquished or vacates the field.

Best, Earlie
