David, I have as much confidence in the DOD's y2k "readiness" as you have in the City of Boston's.<gggg>

I saw you were quoted in the Boston Herald? Care to give us a link?

david, while i'd like to share your optimism about the DoD, i must confess that supply system argument is a real stretch in credulity. testing whether or not a supply of military green toilet paper gets ordered and delivered is about as important to defending this country as a new golf cover for my big bertha is to qualifying for the next US Open.

mission critical systems do not depend upon launching payload wads of 175 sheet, double-ply at our enemy from 30 miles offshore via cruise missles.

i will sleep so much better this evening knowing that our military asses are now squeezably soft-ly covered with DoD Charmin.

devils advocate position on "supply request system" testing

I agree with everyone else that it is a good idea to test as many systems as possible and not just concentrate on a few. But no one here has mentioned the obvious reason why supply request systems would be targeted for testing.

A supply request system needs to know that Sgt. Snorkel needs 100 rolls of toilet paper on August 2nd with Beetle Baily needs a new mop on August 5th. Dates must be an integral part of this system.

There is no real need to incorporate dates into most other systems. (Where's the date in a radar jamming or missile trajectory system?)
