I've heard that the average load capacity has been around 70% this quarter. That, along with lower than average fuel costs should equal a fairly decent quarter for LUV. Any comments?

Westjet is not available in the US. Too bad, because it is a smaller version of Southwest and from the initial results of its IPO will likely duplicate the market success Southwest has enjoyed. It is almost like they have some secret formula on how to make money in the airline business without ruffling many feathers. Thanks for your post; have sold Westjet at a profit and thinking of luv where they don't have 17 mil more shares coming on the market in a month.

This AM's Hartford Courant had a page one story about the significant economic impact that LUV is likely to have on the entire Hartford-Springfield economy. It talks about the dramatic increase in traffic and resultant local spending generated by LUV's discounted fares. It indicates that folks may drive the 2 hours from Albany, NY to Hartford to catch Southwest flights.

Already, they say local charter trip travel agents are rethinking their group travel offerings, because they no longer have to put Hartford folks on a 90-minute bus to Providence to catch a discount group flight there ... its right here, 30 minutes from either Hartford or Springfield center city.

The effect of LUV's entry is likely to include fare cuts by other lines serving the Hartford/Springfield airport (BDL), according to the Courant article, further increasing traffic.
