Oracle customers with support agreements always get upgrades for free. The switch to 8i for existing customers does not mean additional license revenue. There is generally additional revenue from existing customers who upgrade on the services end. They send their DBA's for training classes, maybe have Oracle Consulting in for a couple of days to look at ways to best take advantage of the new features and so on. The real benefit of moving existing customers to 8i is in getting the acceptance level of the release up. It is much easier to sell the product if you can point to rapid acceptance among your existing user base.
