About 6 weeks ago, I had a long conversation with CTXS Director of Investor Relations that lasted for over an hour. The previous occasion I had a session as long as this was prior to their blow-out quarter in June last year. He always never lets me into anything specific in terms of earnings projections, but in response to some fairly pointed questions about: a) Metaframe %age penetration to WTS installations, (yes, only 100%!) b) the real threat of Oracle's new approach to web-based computing (practically non-existent, and he confirmed that some of the customers who'd tried Oracle Applications R11.0 on the 2 tier structure, came back to the Citrix, effectively 3 tier architecture, ie Metaframe) c) the Java threat to Citrix core business (practically non-existent), d) status of the FDX implementation of Metaframe implementation, vs competitive implementation models (esp. Sun Java-based proposal, which had fallen flat), e) will Windows 2000 effectively kill the core Metaframe value proposition (no, in fact, it only validates Citrix style of computing) and a whole assortment of new products they are developing (video streaming, etc etc), I came away with the impression that CTXS was definitely going to continue its momentum going forward, and dare I predict, I think Tuesday is going to bring quite a surprise to most analysts, both in terms of their revenue momentum (from Metaframe, as well as the grossly underestimated 'bolt on' products) and the impact on EPS. If anything, we're likely to see an acceleration of revenue and earnings growth over the next 12 months. I think we're also less than 3 months away from yet another stock split.... The summer is going to be great in Florida. Good luck to everyone who's been a long term CITRIX faithful..and meantime, waiting with bated breath for Tuesday.
