NYMEX TRADED RECORD NUMBER OF CRUDE OIL CONTRACTS WEDNESDAY

York Mercantile Exchange, on July 15.)
EXCHANGE SETS CRUDE OIL DAILY VOLUME RECORD

New York, July 16 -- A daily volume record was established on the New
York Mercantile Exchange yesterday for crude oil futures trading when 244,742
contracts traded, surpassing the previous record of 244,714 contracts set on
May 12,1999.

Exchange President R. Patrick Thompson said, ''This record is the
highest of ANY contract in the history of the Exchange.
