"" ... when the lights are off ... " - you mean... " I mean under the cover of anonymity. "What about yelling 'Theatre' in a crowded fire? " Ah, yes, the difficulty of relevance. IMHO being irrelevant is not a crime in and of itself. But misleading, misdirecting, and causing confusion, as you suggest by your example, is not a way to win friends and influence people. Nor is it a recommended means of helping them or instructing them, or luring them away from a fascinating fire into a dark, quiet theater where nothing is happening. ".. should a critic's family be endangered for that? " Of course not. And it rarely happens to critics. But those who are obnoxious, insulting, hateful, harassing, and the like should not be surprised if their victims don't send them holiday greetings. In a forum such as this, one in which everyone enjoys a degree of anonymity, I think it is prudent to deal carefully with one's opponents. The only that that surprises me about the reactions some people experience is their surprise at those reactions. I guess I should also add that being insufferably silly is also not a crime, and neither is suggesting ridiculous outcomes or saying provocative things just to stir things up: "If so, then there goes the old SI 'marketplace of ideas' concept. Nothing but warm fuzzy smile-and-drink-the-lemonade thoughts expressed. Utterly useless and deadly boring. " However, such techniques are not used by those who actually wish to communicate, influence, assist, etc...you know all the good things that can happen as a result of interacting in a forum such as this. I guess they do things differently in Canada. So, you can be excused for not understanding these things since you do not live under the laws under discussion. Have a nice day. PCM
