Monaco - Re: ".is this INTEL-CISCO venture into broadband access technology something to get excited about? is the news as good as "I" want it to be or is it just news?....M "

At the moment, it is just news - Intel will make and sell ADSL modems with Cisco-developed technology.

The deployment of ADSL is currently limited and is dependent upon local carriers and phone companies to implement this service - so that people can BUY and USE ADSL modems. At the current time, this service is offered by only a few carriers - with specific restrictions such as being within a mile or two of a Central Switching office.

Over time, this will grow and become a larger segment, enabling more users to access the internet with higher speeds supported by ADSL.

However, it does represent COOPERATION with Cisco - which is a good thing and Intel's continued expansion of its inter-networking plans - BOTH are good indicators for the longer term.
