Actually, the failure of electronic trading may well have a soothing effect on the mkt during hectic trading. If/When the BK comes, none of the day traders will be able to make any trades. <g>

FWIW, there is a several minute (~10) delay at Schwab by phone to even get to a live person -- and that's thru their "signature" (select) line.

One of the least documented aspects of this bull market is the effect that direct investing has had/will have on major swings -- we simply don't know what's going to happen if panic trading kicks in.

We know that in good times, people are paying up and still having diffficulty making trades. If stock prices crash, will it matter, if no one (relatively speaking) is really trading that day?
