<<Glenn - Sorry, I don't believe in technical analysis. IMHO,you could flip a coin and produce better results. >>

BD, I too am not a fan of TA however the information should be published on the thread and therefore I did. Any and all information should be published so we can make intelligent and informed decisions on our investing, n'est-ce-pas?

I for one would be very interested in viewing the supporting documents on the analyst's upgrades if anyone has them.

As for comments on the thread about the Corning/Unph battle for the optoelectronics division of Nortel if anyone has further thoughts it would be great.

Food for thought... based on the pre-release of earnings by JDS and UNPH clearly JDS was the company who "brought home the bacon" vis-à-vis overall earnings for the joint company. Now with Jozeph running the day to day business of the combined companies we might expect more cost synergies to be garnered by the new JDSU.

Has anyone checked out the board members of the combined company, wow?

Regards
Glenn

Lucent extends fiber reach with air optical system July 19, 1999

Lucent will soon begin a trial of an air optical networking system it claims will dramatically boost the
capacity of local data network and extend the reach of fiber-optic systems.
Lucent says it will soon be able to provide the power of fiber optics just about anywhere - with or
without the fiber.

Lucent's new WaveStar OpticAir system - developed by Bell Labs - will use state-of-the-art lasers,
amplifiers and receivers that can be placed on rooftops or in office windows to transmit voice, data or
video traffic from point to point through the air.

Eventually, Lucent expects the new system will be able to transmit the data contained in 15 CD
ROMs through the air in less than one second. That's 65 times more information than with today's
radio frequencies.

Potential applications include transmitting data between high-rise office buildings, enabling naval
ships to share huge amounts of information while in port, and establishing temporary, high-capacity data
links for special events.

Global Crossing will be the first to test the system, beginning field trials by December. Global Crossing
is an independent provider of global long distance telecommunications facilities and services, utilizing a
network of undersea digital fiber optic cable systems and associated terrestrial backhaul capacity.
