Another interesting tidbit from AFFX: "During the quarter Affymetrix also entered into an agreement with Gene Logic Inc. to build large, commercially-available, gene expression database products. The initial database will contain information from more than 40,000 human genes and gene fragments, or ESTs, in a wide variety of normal and diseased tissues. The initial database is expected to contain hundreds of millions of data points and will be built under the Genetic Analysis Technology Consortium standards, allowing interoperability among compliant products." Further validation of INCY's business model??? "Affymetrix made substantial progress in the first quarter of 1999 as acceptance of the GeneChip technology by the genomics research community continued to grow. At the end of the first quarter, Affymetrix had an installed base of over 140 GeneChip systems and over 80 customers worldwide." Does 'acceptance by the genomics research community' mean that they aren't really targeting big pharma??? DAK
