Joe is looking at it from the equipment side. The problem there being residual over capacity still being worked through by the manufacturing sector on one side and the hurdle of 300mm on the other side. Also he doesn't see the design focused houses like ALTR at Semicon. Another equipment oriented analyst is also calling for a soft spot coming in the wake of "blow out" good earnings expected from AMAT later this summer. But more of a pause or temporary sag not a change in direction. (Carl Johnson - Infrastructure). How any of this relates to Xicor is questionable. They are shedding manufacturing issues and refocusing on design. However I think Xicor has hit a wall at $5 that is "quality of revenue/earnings caused".

Interesting to note that Dallas Semiconductor announced something about battery management product income shortly after Xicor revealed their ongoing efforts in that arena, see DS news June 16th. More recently Atmel has announced this week EEprom chips now available in Chip Scale Packaging. Follow the leader.
