Go look at your hot water heater. If it is dripping, buy a new one. If it is just the pilot out, and I don't suggest this lightly, then just re-light the pilot. (If it is electric, check the breaker the heater is on.)

Oh and lest I forget, good luck.

<<My hot water heater went out. It is Friday. Do I call a repair man or just buy a new one??? I can't waste any time.>>

Hey, a few cold showers won't kill you.

If it's an old heater buy a new one, you'll save on energy costs.

Either way you'll need a repairman. If it's gas you may just need a pilot adjustment or thermocoupling.

Even installing a new one is a job. You have to drain and remove the old one, hook up either the gas or electric and do a little plumbing.

Call a heating and plumbing shop. They probably have one on hand for the same as you could buy one.
