engineer et al - just talked to Fido's options people, who say that if I exercise at the close I go into immediate margin call and then have only until settlement day Wednesday to cover - also that I can't sell a portion of the same Q shares to cover, as that would be considered an SEC 'free ride'. Didn't someone on this thread just go through all of this nonsense with Schwab last month? What was the outcome?

It's actually ok, if necessary I can use other equity from other accounts to cover (even do a several-day-long rollover from my IRA with no tax penalty to accomplish), but it seems like they're making me jump through lotsa hoops here. Comment?
